About the Author
Robert T. Clemen is Professor at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He has been an active contributor to the field of decision analysis since earning his Ph.D. at Indiana University in 1984 and is an authority in the use of expert information in decision and risk analysis. He has interests in applying decision analysis in the areas of energy use and corporate sustainabiligy. Aside from his research interests, Bob has a strong focus on making decision analysis understandable to all students at all levels, ranging from high school students to executives.

Terence Reilly is an associate Professor of Mathematics at Babson College. His interests include developing innovative curriculum for MBA programs, particularly distance programs, along with simulation and decision analysis. His research interests are in developing sensitivity analysis techniques and fitting distribution curves to univariate and multivariate uncertainties. Recently, he has developed courses in financial methods using simulation and decision analysis.

Cengage helped with Software loading issue - updated review

After two cycles with Cengage support, we finally got excellent support from Jeanette. She provided explicit instructions that allowed me to download an updated version of the software (@RISK 5.7) that worked in my environment (Win7, Excel 2010). We did have to do one final additional step (move the license file to "Palisade / System" directory) that was not in her instructions. We provided her feedback to add this step and thanked her for her support. We are having issues with teh SQL Server add-on optional feature, but this is a Microsoft issue and definitely not Cengage. Updating the review rating to 4 stars

Ordered new ISBN-13: 978-0-495-01508-6 that arrived new with the companion student software in separate CD case that is labeled ISBN-13: 978-0-534-40919-7 for my husband's class. Book and CD appeared to be new. He tried installing the software. No access code is readily obvious in either the book or the companion CD. Palisade points to Cengage. Cengage has replied to a request for support telling me to "look in the book for the access code". Provided them the ISBN of the book and CD and asked explicitly where the "access code" can be found. Waiting for an answer. It is unclear to us whether the book is really not new and the access card has been removed or whether the support from the Cengage is not helpful.

I would recommend buying this book and hopefully Cengage will provide the excellent feedback that I got from Jeanette on other's first contact with the support desk.

Bait and Switch

The book was highly recommended by my professor, and seems to be very good as expected. However the book's cover is worn and its Copyright statement indicates that Amazon delivered the obsolete 2001 Version when I had bought and paid-for a new Updated 2004 Edition. I am also disappointed that the included Palisade's DecisionTools Suite CD-ROM is a "limited tasking, time-locked" student version of the real software that will cost an additional $129 "for unlimited, non-timelocked use" or an additional "$450 for the Standard Suite." Ouch. Caveat emptor!

a starter book for decision making

the book is great by efficiently elaborate the wisdom from simple problems to multiattribute decision making, however, the software attached with the book is not working very well under Office 2010. So if you wanna use the software provided with the book, you'd better take it with windows XP and Office 2003. Besides, I really appreciate the eloquent cases in the book, which well clarify the scope and basis of the decision making principle.

Coehlo...el mismo del alquimista? que pereza....

Nunca he sido fanatico de Coelho. Siempre me parecio absurdo su estilo de 'guerreros de luz' y cosas sobrenaturales. Sin embargo empece a leer este libro por casualidad, un dia bien aburrido y caliente en una libreria de Miami. Era el unico libro en espanol y por eso lo compre. Al principio el libro atrapa con la sospecha y la especulacion de la esposa desaparecida. Luego el analisis de la sociedad y el comportamiento social que deriva en la busqueda interior del personaje por hallar una explicacion razonable a lo que no tenia logica alguna. Si todo estaba bien...por que todo cambio?. Como decia mi abuela: si funciona bien, no lo arregles. Pero todo se trastorna, todo se mueve, y somos tan cobardes, tan ciegos y tan irresponsables con nuestra vida y la de los demas que no nos atrevemos a ser felices porque creemos que eso hace infelices a otros.

Quede impresionado con el libro. Pense al principio que no pasaria del primer capitulo y al bajar del avion lo dejaria en la silla. Pueda que desista como yo de leer el libro cuando vaya a la mitad. Ese es un puente necesario para entender el final. Invierta en el libro. Y si tiene suenos como yo y tiene pareja estable, hagase un regalo y regaleselo a ese ser especial. Tal vez lo entienda a usted mejor cuando decida hacer de su vida lo que siempre quiso que fuera.

Nunca termine de leer 'El Alquimista'. Me parecio pesado y demasiado filosofico para una epoca en la que pasaba del Rock a las depresiones juveniles mientras sobrevivia a la euforia de las hormonas. A lo mejor ahora tras esta experiencia me decida a leerlo.

Zuffi (Art in Venice) does not hesitate to illustrate the human side of the gospel figures, frequently interpreting body postures and facial expressions. In one 1330 painting, Mary leans slightly backward while nursing the infant Christ, a pose that "derive[s], not from some fixed and unchangeable stereotype, but from a direct vision of reality." The reproductions are often set within the artist's own landscape, with biblical cities such as Jerusalem or Bethlehem resembling an Italian hill town or snowy Dutch village, and sometimes even the artist himself (or the wealthy patron of his work) appears. This is a beautiful book. It is a paper back printed on heavy glossy card stock. The subject of each figure is identified and his or her position in the Gospels is briefly described. Details of interest in each subject are noted with pointers.

While most Shaker furniture books illustrate the classic "period of gospel simplicity" from 1820 to 1850, this book illustrates all periods of Shaker furniture, showing that Shaker styles actually reflected the tastes of the time, simple when neoclassical was popular and becoming more ornate as tastes changed to Victorian. Beginning with a broad description of the Shaker religion, lifestyle, and furniture-making, the book progresses to descriptions of each bishopric and its furniture and artisans. Although this book contains more information than most libraries need, it is highly recommended where there is interest.

Terrific summary of Shaker furniture, bishopric by bishopric! Includes detailed description of hundreds of pieces of cabinetwork, chairs, tables and built-ins. Rieman approaches his task with care and the knowledge of a furniture maker as well as the care and analysis of a scholar. I would call it the bible of Shaker Furniture.

Not as new as expected

The book came and the dust jacket was torn and it had some water damage. Not enough to return but when the book is stated as "new" you expect new condition.

Excellent book, beautiful pictures; but see my warning below

Probably because it is one of the newer books on Shaker furniture, this one seems to be the most accurate on the provenance of the many surviving Shaker items. It appears they have done an excellent job of deciphering where a piece was made regardless which village it was found.
THERE IS WARNING HOWEVER! Don't be fooled by what they mean by "The Complete Book." They use the word complete to mean, that in addition to covering the "Shaker Golden Years" of 1830 to around 1850, they have included items from the 18th to the 20th century.
With approximately 400 beautiful illustrations, they can't possibly cover every important piece of Shakerdom. To my disappointment, they did not discuss the particular 12 to 20 foot benches of two slightly differing styles that I have seen pictured in the meeting room at Sabathday Lake. Nor did they show the small wall clock at Sabathday Lake that I wanted to know about.
The authors certainly accomplished their goals of descibing the various, differing forms used by the different locatations over the approximate 150 years covered.
For me the final test is, would I buy it again -- Abosolutely.

Professor Klaus Macharzina und Professor Wolf vermitteln in ihrem didaktisch anspruchsvoll aufbereiteten und bereits in sieben Auflagen sehr erfolgreichen Lehrbuch einen systematischen Überblick über Funktionen, Instrumente und Praxis des Managements aus internationaler Perspektive.

Neu in der 8. Auflage
Für die Neuauflage wurde das Lehrbuch wiederum komplett durchgesehen und unter pädagogisch-didaktischen Gesichtspunkten überarbeitet. Dabei wurden zahlreiche neue Forschungsergebnisse berücksichtigt sowie sämtliche Fall- und Praxisbeispiele aktualisiert und bei Bedarf angepasst. Folgende Neuerungen sind besonders hervorzuheben:
