About the Author
Natasha Alexandrova Natasha has taught Russian for over twenty years, first in Ukraine and now in the U.S. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics and a Master’s Degree, and has attended many teaching conferences and seminars. In the process, she has learned much from her colleagues. Before beginning her career as an author, Natasha was a head teacher, observing countless lessons. In this capacity, she provided feedback to the teachers on improving their lessons, and to the students on how they could best benefit from the program. As a teacher, Natasha watched students struggle to learn Russian from complex textbooks that presented too much too quickly. The students had no time to internalize the information. She soon began to develop her own way of presenting the material, and realized that there is a very simple method of learning any language: divide complicated material into simple pieces, and master it step-by-step. Natasha’s years of experience have culminated in a book series of her own – Russian Step by Step. The books are easy to follow, and, at the same time, they teach real Russian. In RSBS books, students will find dialogues from everyday life, exercises to help master those dialogues, and text to help remember them. The series has branches for both adults and children. The adult series is aimed at non-Russian speakers who want to learn either alone, or with the help of a teacher. The many hours of audio included with the books help students to learn proper Russian pronunciation. The children’s series is aimed at bilingual kids, or those whose Russian-speaking parents or grandparents want them to both understand and communicate in Russian. A good start...

Very nice beginner workbook. I've been looking for something like this for a while now. I like that there is plenty of opportunity to write (since I think writing words helps memorization) Not sure what other workbooks they have in this series for kids. Definitely, hoping there are more to help build vocabulary.

The Sweetest Thing!!!

The Sweetest Thing!!! This book is so DELICIOUS!!! Hi, I’m a chocoholic. Ever since reading and watching the movie “Chocolat” I have been in a baking frenzy. I wanted to wait and review this after I had baked a lot of its recipes at the top of my list. This was self-indulgence at its best.

I was pleasantly surprised how easy most of these recipes were and the reward was more than I could ask for. I love it when it takes a small amount of effort and the dessert turns out to be not only rich but decadent. I impressed myself, if I do say so myself.

At the beginning of the book there were tips about cooking chocolate that were helpful, like what to do instead if you don’t own a double boiler. I do not have one so I just melted the chocolate on the lowest setting on the stovetop. It worked beautifully. These recipes performed flawlessly for me. I don’t consume a lot of bittersweet chocolate so most of the time I substituted semisweet chocolate and it worked just right. The only thing that I thought could have made this book better was more pictures, one for each recipe. I’m visual, I like to see what I am going to make along with what type of presentation I am aiming for. After all, that makes the food taste even better.

This was the first time in my life to have ever eaten crème brulee. I was proud that I actually made it myself. I’m usually not a big fan of white chocolate but this was an exception. It was a sophisticated silky smooth dessert. I do not have a handheld torch but it was easy using the “broil” setting on the oven. The sugar was browned and it cracked on top like it was supposed to. Yum.

I have to admit this book deserved the highest rating because of one dessert alone—Triple Chocolate Truffle Cake!!! I know!!! It won an award for a contest “Is Your Dessert Intense Enough.” Pure ecstasy. It is so delicious it’s a sin…one I will gladly commit over and over again.

Tasty recipes I made from this book, so far: Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, Fudgy Chocolate Brownies, Flourless Chocolate Torte with Dark Chocolate Glaze, Triple Chocolate Truffle Cake (to-die-for), Chocolate Caramel Walnut Torte, Chocolate-Almond layered Cheesecake, Chocolate Chip Cheesecake, Individual Chocolate Souffles, White Chocolate Crème Brulee, Rich Chocolate Fudge, Milk Chocolate Truffles, English Toffee.

They were all worth it…and there’s more to make later.

Within the first week we made a couple of different desserts for our friends. The chocolate pecan pie had people asking if I share recipes. One of the best parts is the information and techniques for cooking with chocolate and to make it work better. We waited months before we bought the book; don't wait, buy it now and enjoy. (Don't tell, but we did not always use Ghirardelli chocolate in the recipes.)

This blew my mind to what is possible with women and life!

The Alabaster Girl is one of the most incredible books I've ever read. It's a book about a seducer, and how he came to be a woman's fantasy, and had countless memorable experiences all over the world. It's a book about being a modern-day Casanova, and how you can learn the subtle secrets of being the kind of man that women adore.

Not only that but it's a philosophy of life. It paints a picture of beauty and motivates and inspires us to go out and find it. So many men have boring, drab lives nowadays, and Zan Perrion explains why, what we're missing, where it went, and how to regain our adventurous, passionate, masculine spirit.

It's funny and surprising, and you'll be shocked at some of the things this ladies man gets away with saying to women. And it's heartfelt and coming from a place of true love.

I would recommend this book to any man who doesn't have the lightness and flow with his interactions with women that he'd like to have, and I'd recommend it to all men who do have great relationships and want to enjoy and have even more fun. This is also a Must-Read for women, where the author reveals all the secrets that have you give your hearts and your beds to this particular kind of man.

Couldn't resist leaving a review.. this book is amazing

I've never bothered to leave a review on Amazon before. I'm an Amazon review virgin. But I finished The Alabaster Girl this morning and couldn't resist leaving a review...

What an amazing book! For so many reasons. What I thought would simply be a distillation of his seduction philosophy turned out to be philosophical statement about life. This book isn't so much about women and seduction as it's about how to life a fulfilling and satisfying life.

My life is quite satisfying as it is... but somewhere, deep inside me, there's a spot that has been crying out for something more. More... what? I'm not sure. I'm still figuring it out. But The Alabaster Girl spoke directly to that part of me, the part of me that is searching for more than a nice lifestyle, some money in the back and a gorgeous woman by my side.

The book made me question everything I've chosen to believe over the last few years. I've been focused on building my business. In March, I went through a mental shift where I decided to "do whatever it took" to build my business. I think that that decision was a terrible decision to make. It didn't particularly help with business, because instead of just focusing on high impact activities, I focused on hours... 12-14 hours days, over and over again... giving up my hobbies like music, languages and friends. But during and after reading Zan's book, I've had a realization that perhaps I was doing the wrong thing... that business and financial success isn't the most important thing to me... that what's missing from my life isn't more money, or success, or women specifically... but the courage to live my own truth, to go deep within myself, find the truth, find what's real and important to me, and to boldly go out and live it, no matter what the cost, even if it meant giving up on making millions.

I can't say enough good things about the book. I realize I didn't say anything about the book specifically, but only my reactions to it. That's fine. If you're entirely satisfied with your life, with no ambition or desire of any kind, this book isn't for you. But if, like me, the depth of your soul is crying out for something more.. more than the usual stuff.. the usual gospel of "rise and grind", and so on... this book will change you forever. Read it.

This is not just a book for men

Ladies, when I read this book it made me feel more empowered, not to mention beautiful and confident.
The book cannot be lumped into one thing, it is sensual and instructional; inspiring and dreamy yet challenging and confrontational. It is masculine and feminine. It takes you to the questionable edges but then quickly has you savoring the taste of hot chocolate fudge.
So much could be said to rate the book but only Zan Perrion has the words powerful enough to describe it.
Enjoy!!! I will be reading it a second time.

A really good read

And we have another wonderful little story. Jarmal, the Guardian of Scryer’s Well, a mystical well that will answer the quest of someone who has truly prepared to know their destiny. Tariq, a member of a group of magicians on a quest to figure out how to destroy a djinn who has taken over his city. Two men who are tied to their jobs and yet fall in love.

This is one story wherein we missed a lot of what went on due to single point of view. I felt so badly for Jarmal after Tariq left to defend his city. After all, would he remain alone forever? However, while we suffered with him, the ending was a wonderful surprise and well worth making it through.

I was so happy with this book, it more than met my expectations. Beautiful jewellery beautifully photographed, a real feast for the eyes. The narration I also found really interesting, history and ingenuity colliding to make some of the most beautiful jewels ever made. So glad I made the purchase.

About the Author

Nancy R. Hooyman

Nancy R. Hooyman holds the Hooyman Professorship of Gerontology and is dean emeritus at the School of Social Work at the University of Washington. Her MSW and Ph.D. in sociology and social work are from the University of Michigan. She is nationally recognized for her scholarship in aging and multigenerational policy and practice, gender inequities in family caregiving, and feminist gerontology. In addition to this textbook, Dr. Hooyman is the co-author of Living through Loss: Interventions across the Life Span; Taking Care of Aging Family Members; and Feminist Perspectives on Family Care: Policies for Gender Justice, and editor of Transforming Social Work Education: The First Decade of the Hartford Geriatric Social Work Initiative. She has published over 120 articles and chapters and is a frequent national and international presenter on issues related to gerontology, a multigenerational perspective, and women. She is Co-Principal Investigator of the Council on Social Work Education’s National Center for Gerontological Social Work Education, funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation, and an advisory board member and national research mentor for the Hartford Geriatric Social Work Faculty Scholars Program. . A Fellow in the Gerontological Society of America, Dr. Hooyman is past-chair of GSA’s Social Research, Policy and Practice Section  She received the Significant Lifetime Achievement in Social Work Education Award from the Council on Social Work Education in 2009.

 

 

H. Asuman Kiyak

H. Asuman Kiyak is Director of the Institute on Aging, professor in the School of Dentistry, and adjunct professor in the Departments of Architecture and Psychology at the University of Washington. She obtained her M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology at Wayne State University. Professor Kiyak has been the recipient of major research grants from NIH, CDC, AOA, the State of Washington, and private foundations in the areas of health promotion and health service utilization by older adults, and in person—environment adaptation to Alzheimer’s disease by patients and their caregivers. She has published over 130 articles and 35 chapters in these areas and is known nationally and internationally for her research on geriatric dental care and the application of psychological theory to health promotion. In 2000 she received the Distinguished Scientist Award from the International Association for Dental Research, and has served as president of the Geriatric Oral Research, and the Behavioral Sciences and Health Services Research Groups of IADR. Dr. Kiyak was Principal Investigator of a recently completed clinical trial in geriatric dentistry funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, and two studies of a community-based health promotion study funded by the CDC. She has collaborated with Intel to test new technologies and to sponsor conferences on this topic to help older adults remain active and independent. In 2003 she was named Distinguished Professor of Geriatrics at UCLA, and received the Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Washington Educational Outreach division. Professor Kiyak is a Fellow in the Gerontological Society of America.

Needs Proofreading

This book has LOTS of errors in it and requires proofreading. It is very difficult to take the reading as a source of "authority" on the subject when it appears the author(s) lack a basic understanding on how to even write a sentence without multiple spelling, punctuation and grammar errors. For some reason, once I lose that basic respect for an author, the degree of creditability I afford the author somehow decreases accordingly!

Poor rental service

I read this book throughout my semester, and it was just fine. It is easy to read and comprehend. HOWEVER, I rented this text through Amazon (eCampus/Great Book Rentals) and received it in typical used condition. I returned the book on time and in the exact same condition as I received it. To my surprise, I received a big, fat juicy bill of $176 saying I had damaged the binding. FALSE. Looks to me like this rental company is looking to take advantage of college students. Luckily Amazon refuted the charge and I will be receiving a refund. Please be cautious and take photos of the texts you rent the day you receive it in the mail.

Good book, interesting stats...

I am only a few chapters into this book so far, but it seems to be a good read. I have already learned several new things about aging and look forward to my continued reading. My only complaint so far is that while interesting, I think that there are too many statistics. This kind of takes away the importance of some of the more pertinent facts and would be far too many to memorize.
